AIM to Learn | LaTeX
The first AIM to Learn workshop, in the subject of LaTeX, occurred on November 27th of 2019 in room 10.1.11 at the University of Aveiro. The LaTeX workshop was presented by Carlos Bornes, a PhD student at the Chemistry Department and member of the installing commission of CAD. This workshop had around 30 participants from all the three departments comprising CICECO.
The main idea behind the creation of these workshops was to have a form of knowledge transference in a more informal setting relevant topics for the PhD students. We envisioned workshops on more technical subjects such as using efficiently different programs necessary in research or honing important skills that will help manage the work and writing of a PhD thesis. As such, the LaTeX workshop was divided in two main parts, a theoretical part were Carlos compared LaTeX and Word for writing scientific documents and introduced some basic LaTeX syntax and a second part where the participants did some simple exercises about formatting LaTeX documents. All the exercises were made in Overleaf, a cloud-based LaTeX editor widely used to write, edit and publish scientific documents. The examples used during the workshop are available [here]().
